It has been reported that people receive around 85% of their information through their sense of sight1. This is especially relevant when it comes to welding as welders rely heavily on their vision to consistently, and safely, produce high quality welds. Many welders, however, do not have the luxury of working in optimal light conditions, and may need the assistance of a helmet-attached task light to view their workpiece and surroundings.
We take a look at how the new 3M Speedglas G5-01 Welding Helmet optional task light can help welders improve their vision in poorly lit spaces!
Why is lighting important to welders?
Put simply, better vision is linked to higher quality welds. The greater your ability to see the contours and edges of your workpiece, as well as your work environment, the greater your precision, productivity and overall weld quality.
A well-lit welding environment also has the potential to minimise workplace injuries such as eyestrain usually associated with working in insufficient lighting, and the resulting headaches. Poor lighting can also derail a welder’s positional awareness, leaving them much more susceptible to workplace accidents. When you consider that welders work in tough conditions, often surrounded by heavy metals and industrial machinery, it stands to reason that lighting plays an important role in welding safety.
A light made specifically for welding
The Speedglas G5-01 welding helmet is available with an optional helmet-mounted task light, enabling welders to enter and work in poorly lit areas. Designed specifically for welding, the task light is ideally positioned at the centre of the helmet to cast a wide light on the workpiece, offering even light distribution at a normal welding distance.
Task lighting is proven to significantly increase light levels over the workspace and all that surrounds it1. As no two environments are the same, the optional task light features configurable light intensity. This allows you to easily adjust the light output at the push of an external button – an important feature as your lighting conditions may change.
The new lightweight task light is powered by the Adflo PAPR battery, meaning you benefit from hours of powerful lighting in the darkest of welding environments!
Note: the task light is an optional accessory to the G5-01 helmet and must be purchased separately
