Speedglas G5-01VC Welding Helmet with Heavy-Duty Adflo PAPR

The latest in welding helmet technology

Since releasing the world’s first auto-darkening lens in 1981, Speedglas have continued to break new ground in welding helmet technology. The Speedglas G5-01 marks the 5th generation of Speedglas welding helmets, built to adjust to each individual welder’s needs in heavy-duty welding environments.

The result is a truly ground-breaking system that gives professional welders the ultimate in comfort, protection and adaptability. The below video from the Speedglas Powered Air Training Academy (SPATA) presents a detailed outline of how the G5-01 effectively maintains welders’ protection while maximising their comfort:

Designed for high-amperage, heavy-duty welding

Based on extensive input from welders working at high amperages who need to grind frequently, the Speedglas G5-01 has been designed from inception to offer heavy-duty protection in hard-wearing environments.

Consequently, the helmet comes standard with a 3M™ Adflo™ Heavy-Duty Powered Air Purifying Respirator (PAPR); this provides welders up to 12 hours of continuous respiratory protection against welding fume. To that end, the respirator has a Required Minimum Protection Factor (RMPF) of 50, meaning it supplies at least 50 times cleaner air than the welder would otherwise breathe unprotected.

The helmet also features an extra-large clear visor for grinding applications, set-up, moving around the workshop, and low light conditions. Integrated flip-up welding helmets with powered air respiratory protection give welders a completely clear and uninhibited view of their workpiece and surroundings while maintaining their face, eye and respiratory protection at all times.

Never-before-seen features

In addition to Speedglas hallmarks like True-View optics and Adflo powered air respiratory protection, the G5-01 boasts a series of new and exclusive features that truly set it apart from the market at large.

A prime example is Variable Colour Technology: this allows the welder to choose between A) natural, B) cool or C) warm colour tones in the dark state. It’s up to each welder to decide which tone provides the best contrast for their welds and most comfort for their eyes (and every welder is different)!

For extended non-welding work, welders can unscrew the two dials on the side of the helmet to completely remove the welding visor and then re-attach the dials again before starting work. In the process, the overall weight of the helmet is reduced by over 35% - the visor can then be seamlessly reattached to resume welding whenever necessary.

A helmet mounted task light is also available as an optional extra to provide hours of powerful lighting (powered by the Adflo battery pack). Designed specifically for welding, this task light enables welders to enter and work in poorly lit spaces.

Finally, the G5-01 welding lens can be paired with a mobile phone via Bluetooth using the 3M Connected Equipment App. Once connected via Bluetooth, the welding lens settings can be controlled remotely from a mobile device, including the programming of up to four memory modes.
