Celebrating 20 years of Adflo PAPR - Part 1!

Article By: Team AWS

Since launching in 2000, the Adflo powered air purifying respirator (PAPR) has emerged as one of the most popular respirators of its kind in the world. Over the last 20 years, the Adflo PAPR has been continually upgraded to optimise its performance in an industry where most PAPRs can’t cut it. To celebrate its 20th anniversary, we wanted to showcase 20 reasons why it has become such a trusted asset for welders. Here's the first 10...

1. Powerful protection against carcinogenic welding fume

It’s no secret that welding fume was classified as ‘Carcinogenic to Humans’ by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) in early 2017. The Adflo respirator offers high efficiency particulate filtration, helping welders to minimise welding fume exposure.

2. Built specifically for welders

The award-winning Adflo system is designed to meet your specific welding needs. The Adflo system is compatible with a range of Speedglas respiratory welding helmets, including flip-up options and safety helmets, and offers a range of filters to suit your working environment.

3. Required Minimum Protection Factor (RMPF) of 50

The Adflo has a Required Minimum Protection Factor (RMPF) of 50, meaning you’ll be breathing 50 times cleaner air than you would when welding unprotected. To put this into perspective, the Adflo PAPR provides 5 times the respiratory protection offered by a disposable or reusable half face respirator.

4. Lightweight protection

Lightweight new Li-Ion PAPR is over 15% lighter and is worn around the waist, offering a constant flow of clean, filtered air. An optional backpack attachment helps to more evenly disperse the weight across the welders’ back, for even greater comfort.

5. Mobility is key

The Adflo PAPR goes where the welder goes. The slim profile and ergonomic turbo design make it easy to navigate around tight spaces. Its ergonomics are based on the welder’s need for lightweight, adaptable and easy-to-use respiratory protection.

6. Adjustable airflow

The constant flow of clean air into your breathing zone can be adjusted to suit your needs and preferences. Choose between 170 litres per minute or 200 litres (for hot, humid jobs) at the touch of a button. When combined with the new Speedglas G5-01 Heavy Duty Welding Helmet, welders can even adjust the direction of the airflow within the helmet – imagine climate control for your car, inside a welding helmet!

7. Adaptable filtration

In addition to the high efficiency particle filter, welders have the option to add a specialised gas filter to protect against organic gases and vapours. This kind of all-round protection in one system is a rarity in the market, with many respirators lacking any form of gas filtration.

8. Heavy-Duty battery option

Welders have the option of choosing a heavy-duty Adflo battery which offers up to 12 hours continuous protection – an additional 4 hours protection over the standard battery. Perfect for those longer shifts!

9. One hour rapid charge

Forget to charge your battery at the end of your shift? No worries! The new Lithium-Ion Adflo battery charges from 0-80% capacity in just one hour!

10. Award winning respiratory protection

The Adflo PAPR has received acclaim and a number of awards for both its state-of-the-art design and functionality.
